Since I bought my car, I've always had a noisy passenger side window. This has gotten increasingly worse. When rolling it up, it makes this noisy clunk type sound the moment you press the window switch. It doesn't do it always, and it depends on where the window is positioned. Anyone ever removed the door panel before? Any ideas what this may be? I would really love to get this fixed!

Thanks,
Adam

Removing the door panel isn't difficult at all. There "hidden" screw is in the courtesy light at the bottom of the door. You've got to pop the clear cover off, and you'll see it. I remember another being in the hand grab, and maybe another under the armrest? That I'm not sure of. I know there aren't a lot of screws, 3 or 4. If you've got the little tweeter speaker on the A-pillar, that just pops out, it's held in by clips, no screws or anything. Then, you just have to lift up on the door panel to get it off. Give it a good tug, as it snaps in place pretty securely.

As far as what's causing the "clunk", don't know if the motor could be going bad or not. If you're still under warranty, I'd take the car to a dealership before doing anything myself. I did a quick look, and didn't see any TSBs related to the issue you're having.

Thanks for your reply. The stupid dealer once told me that squeaks and rattles, and such are covered only for 12mos under warranty. So when I had called to describe the problem, they identified it as such.
Can you operate the window with the door panel removed? Is it the common plastic clips that hold the door panel in place? I'm always hesitant to remove those types of parts because one of those clips always seems to break. It happened to me with the door sill. But I think you can easily find these at the parts store.

Yup, they are the white plastic wedge type clips that hold the door panel on. The wires connecting the power window/lock switches aren't terribly long, but you can leave them connected and test things out.

Well, I managed to get Mazda to take a look at this and replace the motor/regulator if they need to. They tell me this part is all one unit. I'm going to have them check it out later this week!

keep us posted... the whole window part thing is an enigma to me. it seems the sunroof module is the same.
I huge intertwined part. So it's not really possible to just swap out/upgrade to the one touch functionality they have in the newer models. i digress....g/l getting your window looked at. ;)

Good lcuk Let us know how it turns out. What dealership are you bringing it to?

They actually told me there are several different motors, and depending on the "number" of mine, they dont know which one I need. I'm bringing my car in so they can quickly obtain the information they need off the part and order the part.

Ive heard of people taking the sunroof switches out of a cx-7 and using them in a 6, and they can get the one touch function on the sunroof

i heard that was not possible, but i could've heard wrong. When asking about sunroof part for the 6, the switch and flipdown
compartment for your sunglasses were combined so you bought it all, you can't buy just the switch.
