View Full Version : I have to say.....
Feel a little better about Burt now that Andy is gone from Service. I took my car into Burt today again for my RANDOM MISSFIRE IN CYLINDER (ROTOR) ONE. Well I went in and talked to the new service manager. Let him know what is going on and that I have had this ongoing problem for 2 months and Andy not wanting to touch it. Explained I changed the plugs and same thing. I asked him if they have any Tranny techs yet. He says no. I was hoping he woulda said yes. He asked why and I told him my tranny problem and what Sil Ter had said. He said let's go for a ride. So we go out to Arapahoe head west. I get up to 38-40 mph and explain to him the situation in which it happens. Scenario one down shifting - On the highway with someone giong 45 and I want to make a pass, Well I was giong a little under 40 cause of traffic when we did this, but in order to pass and safely I need to down shift so I down shifted and nothing but grinding. The look on his face was nails on a chalk board. Basically he siad that's not normal at all. Just verifies to me that Sil Ter didn't really take my car out and try it. Scenario 2 we didn't try cause we turned back around on Dayton I think it was and headed around the backside to Service. Well that's on upshift entering the highway safely. On the way back talked about how Andy didn't want to touch the car and kept on sayin yada yada to me. Jimmy's (Jim's?) conclusion was the same as mine.....COILS. Something andy didn't want to check out. He also said it may be a failing cat.
So they are gonna be checking my car for loss of power and also coils and things related that need to be checked. I hope they figure it out. Jimmy seems like a good person and IMO will get Burt Better customer service than Andy. He didn't tell me any lies or try to make any excuses and asked questions to try and pinpoint the cause. +1 to burt again.

Very glad to hear that Jimmy! I have heard that the new service manage is real cool and will be a lot more helpful and knowledgeable than Andy was... or was not as he sucked! Can't wait to meet him.

Wait, so Sil-Terhar gave you the same-old crap about the transmission? Should I not go there, either? Why won't any freakin' dealership admit something so freakin' obvious!!!! Grrr.
That said, I'm glad the new service manager at Burt is more attentive. Once I get the tranny figured out, I'll go back to Burt for anything else in the future.

You can try. You may have better luck if you explain to them that there is nothing wrong with the clutch and it's the gears. See if you can have them go with a ride with you. They basically said that my clutch was "all torn up" on a clutch that was put in last August and had not seen any hard driving and few miles. I mean on average I've put less than 8k miles on the car each year. I just hit 33k and it's 4.5 years old. I just don't care much for Sil Ter Har because they even charged me $104 bucks to check a CEL that I know what the code was. If they wanted I could brought my brothers scanner to do it myself for them. In fact it's the same CEL that it's back at Burt for. There's no harm in trying though.

I have had all my work done at McDonald(Clutch TSB, all my flashes, 30000 tune up), I have nothing but good things to say about them. Actually my car is there right now getting a new fuel pump(TSB) and rear diff shaft put in(mine starting to leak). Can't speak for the autobody side but service has always treated me well........Good communication and never doubted what I have told them regarding issues with the car......I will continue to go there, but good to know burt is on the right track.....I had only heard bad things about them before...

I completely dispise mcdonalds auto service, their salesmen, everything about that place. Not just the Mazda, but all of it. They are a bunch of douche bags that take us for granted. I will never take another car back there, and will never buy a car from them.
I have always gotten nothing but the best service at Burt, even before Josh ever started there. Of course now that he works there I get treated like a princess!! haha Even though with having a mazda I'm never in there for anything major... just oil changes, and to bug the guys in service.

Ok stop making me jack my thread. Good day.
Just and update on the Service over at Burt with Jimmy there........
A++++++++++++........+++++++++.......++++++++..... ..
It only took 2 dealers 3 different service managers and over 2 months but my coils have been replaced. 3 of the 4 coils were bad and had sever/noticable burn marks on them. Instead of replacing just the 3 Jimmy had all four replaced for me. :D I just wish that Burt can get a Transmission tech over there. Oh how I wish. Best service I've had at a dealer since Chris @ Lakewood and Ed @ Burt. Burt will e getting a great review from me.

Saaaweeeet. That's good to hear. You are by far the best service manager any Mazda dealer I've been to has had. You take care of everyone and don't feed them BS. Yep the car has felt so muc better with the new coils in there. A huge difference in power on the hot days. So much more enjoyable to drive when it's working right.

I just want to say that Jimmy fixed me right up this weekend. I had my radio replaced due to a defect, and they forgot to pull the CD's out of the changer. Jimmy hooked me up and took the time to swap them back, pull my cd's and swap the new one back in again. All with no techs, so he did it himself. Anyway just wanted to add my bit to the views about the new service manager over at Burt.
That is sweet I should be in there tomorrow after 3 to take my car in for an oil change and to check out something on the intake manifold. A plastic peice that sticks out of it and connects to a vaccum line has broken off of it. I plugged the hole up cause it was rough idling and throwing a CEL. In result I also had no heat. After I plugged it up all was normal again but the manifold needs changing.
Did that Tech get trained yet? My scheduels are really tight now so only time I have really to drop the car off for any service is after 3 on mondays. :( Will call early tomorrow to set up an appointment.

I have to admit that Jimmy seems alot more knowledgable than the previous service tech, but I also have to say that SO FAR, Andy was better at follow up. He always gave me a time frame, and if it were going to take more than a day he would offer a rental. I dropped my car off on Monday, called Monday and they said Tuesday, called today and they said tomorrow...going on 3 days without a car. I just hope that they FINALLY fix my stereo, brakes, sunroof, center console...blah blah blah. Getting a little discouraged.

Jimmy is definitely by far the best service manager I've worked with!! Took my car straight to him when my AC converter went out.
BURT'S JIMMY ROCKS!
Intresting.... I've never had any problems with Jimmy on follow up.... He even let me sit my car there the whole week and weekend while I get the parts ordered to drop off...... Plus I really can't pick it up till monday or tuesday.... other dealrs would want to charge a storage fee after x amount of days....
I snuck into my car Sunday night and left the parts but the voicmail I left didn't get to Jimmy so I called him late monday t let him know the parts were in there...... I might have it back today.... :D

What's all wrong with everything? I got an ongoing case of Random missfires since they put a new motor in there Aug of 07...... Been one long painful year of Random missfires....
The stereo randomly cycled through stations for almost 2 years. I had the stereo replaced two or 3 times, but Andy would never listen when I said I thought it was the buttons/controls and not the stereo. He finally decided to listen to me, he replaced the buttons, it fixed the stereo problem, but made it so I couldn't press the buttons because they were stuck. Now Jimmy is replacing the buttons again for me.
I also took it into Andy for a Sunroof rattle and asked him to perform a TSB to fix it. When I picked the car up he told me that it was not the sunroof rattling, but that they had taken apart the rear end and found a "bunch of loose bolts" in the trunk. They tightened them. I got in my car, opened the sunroof and immediatly heard the rattle. I was done and didn't return since.
The Brakes were exhibiting the squeal that the TSB covers. The service guy before Andy told me they would replace the brake pads. I dropped my car off, picked it up a few days later and they said it was all done. The squeal remained. I went back a few months later and Andy told me that it looked like the parts were ordered but never installed. They installed them for me and the squeal became worse, louder and more high pitched. So now it is back in and Jimmy is replacing them/fixing them.
The center console button does not set flush, because of this you cannot close the center console unless you hold the button in while you slide it closed. I think it happened when they took everything apart to replace the stereo the last time.
As of right now, my car has been at Burt since Monday morning. I haven't heard a word from anyone there except when I call them to see if it is ready. I about to call again and check. I really need a car for tomorrow.
I also want to point out that I am not talking down to Burt or any of the employee's, only expressing my concern for not getting any response. I'm sure Jimmy is knowledgable and I'm sure they are working on it. I have just had a lot of bad experience in the past and it makes me that much more particular when I drop my car off.
Wow... that's a lot of stuff......
About the center console lid.... Mine did that to... Lakewood was supposed to replace it but didn't.... I ended up fixing it myself.... it's pretty simple..... If you pull the cover out and unsrew the 2 screws at that hold the button assembly in you can pop it out.... If you look on the sides there are arms with tabs.... one of the tabs isn't grabbing right..... you need to take apart the assembly and ben that arm out.... but don't bend it to far or you might snap it off..... it's a easy fix if it happens again with the new one or if burt doesnt replace it....

Cool, thanks for the tip. It is a lot of stuff, compounded by the fact that no one ever really fixed anything. I went in yesterday and it still wasn't done, so I finally got hooked up with a rental. It seems that the sunroof fix actually requires them to pull out the headliner and replace everything? No clue what was wrong with it. It is supposed to be done on Friday.

When you open the sunroof is it kinda jumpy and rattly....... All that needs to be done probably is grease the tracks....
I swung by there today with my cousin while they were closed to see some 3s for her and that used WRX they have there and I drove by service..... you should be glad to know that your car is garaged.... not sure how much space they had when my car was there but mine was left in the same parking spot I had left it in when I dropped it off..... (dropped it off monday, Swung by Sunday to leave parts in it and it was in the same spot.....)
Sadly I got another random missfire..... we can cross off ignition coils, spark plugs, and plug wires of being the cause..... Hmm.... what is left.... can't be bad gas cause this has been giong on since Sept 07...... Gee I guess in for a compression test it goes on Monday....... I'll give Jimmy a call tomorrow.....

I took mine to Burt for the sunroof TSB when Andy was there as well, and nothing was done. Ditto for the squeaking brakes. I also had the center console lid replaced, but that was when I bought the car. I fixed the button myself while I was waiting for the part to come in, but they (Lakewood) still swapped the entire lid assembly out. Good luck with everything, you've had extremely similar issues as I have.

Sooooo...
I picked up the car today, and all the paperwork shows that they did what they were supposed to. I go out and start the car, it fails to start. I try again and it sluggishly starts and sputters and I get a check engine light. Maybe the tech forgot to rev it...as I sit in it I hear a loud click click click noise. I ask Jimmy to come out and he notices a loose spark plug wire. Inside the car, one of the mechanics left a socket, and as I open and close the sunroof, the map light module starts to come out of the roof. They forgot to put the screws back in. After getting all the sorted out, I have to say that the stereo FINALLY appears to be working, the sunroof doesn't rattle, the brakes don't squeal and life seems to be pretty good. They also replaced the center console lid.
Looking over the paperwork, it looks like they scoured the brake pads, machined the rotors and replaced the entire sunroof rail assembly. They put a lot of time and labor into it, and it seems that it might actually be done. I am being a little reserved and skeptical because of past experience, but I am hopeful.
I also have to commend Jimmy on his overall knowledge of the car. When I first explained my stereo problem, he told me that it was all one piece just like Andy did, but I think it was a misunderstanding. The only criticism I would give, and it is meant in a constructive way, would be to communicate more with the customer. Had he kept me up to date, given me a deadline and told me what they were doing, it would have gone smoother.
Overall at this time I am satisfied and glad to see a service manager that actually gets things done, doesn't lie and say things were done that weren't. and doesn't argue.
Kudos

After just less than 2 months, the squeaking brakes came back. Time to call Jimmy again. I have been putting it off for near a month now...grrrrrrrr
I havn't driven my car the last month and a half but I still have some of my same problems with the clutch and all... Random missfire is still there... I have just given up on the Random missfire issue and ignore it.... everyone on RX-8 club says it's nothing and not to worry about it... Hope they are right cause my powertrain warranty is up next month... Atleast the rotors and housing and eccentric shaft are covered for another year if something goes wrong with the motor..... The tranny though is all on me now.... gotta see how much they want to install my master slave cylinder.... I already have the part....
